New Westminster is using new tools to help make municipal planning and development processes more friendly to seniors.

In 2010, the City of New Westminster applied for funding from the Union of B.C. Municipalities seniors housing and support initiative/age friendly community planning and projects grants, and received $20,000 to develop a seniors' engagement toolkit. This will help city staff to better engage seniors in municipal planning.

"The toolkit, while targeted at seniors, will also benefit all segments of the community," said a report. "It will create more inclusive and responsive engagement processes, enabling everyone, whether a newly arrived immigrant, a person with a disability or a senior, to participate and make a meaningful contribution."
