There’s no shortage to the informative and entertaining offerings at Century House. Here’s two of the upcoming events:
* Janice Bannister is emceeing the Comedy Cabaret, which is taking place at Century House on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
“Come out and enjoy laughs with the Laughter Zone 101 comedy troupe. All comics are aged 50+, and they will be sharing their diverse comedic adventures with you,” said a notice about the event. “The Cabaret will feature comics from B.C.'s Funniest Female, the Flame Storytellers, Women's Network and CBC. Come out and meet new people, or bring along your laughter pals.”
Tickets are $12 for Century House members and $15 for non-members, and this event could sell out because a limited number of seats are available. RSVP by Monday, Sept. 19 at the front desk of Century House.
* New West residents are invited to join a Seniors’ Health and Wellness Institute volunteer and Century House for a virtual workshop on vision health. This Zoom session is on Friday, Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
“The structure of the eye is described and major diseases that may affect older adults are explained,” said a notice about the program. “We stress prevention and explore possible treatments.” Register in advance at www.tinyurl.com/CHVisionHealth.
Skills to share?
Century House is getting set to launch Octopus 3: Evolving Technology for Seniors this fall – and it could use your help.
As it continues its quest to provide seniors programming that focuses on technology and information, Century House has opportunities for locals to develop and lead programs in the community. Some programs will be offered through Zoom and some will be hybrid style (in-person and online combined), with technical support will be provided by Century House.
Century House is seeking proposals from people who are interested in working on Octopus 3. Proposals can be based on technology, or they can be related to art, music, or anything creative or educational.
Proposals will be accepted until all the spots are filled. An honorarium will be available.
Anyone who is interested in developing and leading a program can email Shelly Schnee at [email protected] with a one-page proposal, outlining your skills in the area, your contact information and your availability.
