Danielle Connelly is the latest New Westminster trustee to throw her hat back into the ring.
Connelly, who was elected in 2018 with the New West Progressives Electors Coalition, announced Wednesday afternoon that she will also be seeking re-election in the Oct. 15 civic election.
She’ll be part of the Progressives slate once again.
“There has been so much great work done over the past three-and-a-half years, from building two new schools and beginning a much-needed expansion project at Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, to opening a student wellness centre, increasing child-care spaces, new climate action initiatives and improving the ways in which we engage with both students and families, and that includes having an engaged student voice who continue to bring so much to the board discussions and help shape how we plan for the future,” Connelly said in a campaign video.
She acknowledged the last few years have been challenging for everyone with the pandemic.
“The impact on our students, our families and our staff is still being felt today, and I feel strongly that there is a need for continuity and courageous leadership that will continue to bring a diverse perspective and an ability to work together in order to meet the needs of our students as we move forward,” she said.
“I hope to continue working hard towards securing land and funds for new schools, advocating for more funding for students, improved mental health funding and supports, climate action initiatives, improved transportation for all students and much more to ensure we are able to meet the needs of every student in our rapidly growing city.”
Connelly is currently the only sitting elected official under the New West Progressives banner.
So far, the slate has announced its mayoral candidate, Ken Armstrong, as well as council candidates Daniel Fontaine, Rick Folka, Paul Minhas and Jiayi Li-McCarthy.
