New Westminster is part of HUB Cycling’s efforts to get folks to Bike to Shop this month.
From Aug. 1 to 31, HUB Cycling is challenging folks to shop by bike, by providing information such as tips and tricks on carrying items by bike. Bike to Shop, a Metro Vancouver-wide initiative presented by HUB Cycling, includes interactive neighbourhood maps that are intended to help cyclists to plan their routes, find secure bike parking options and learn about bike-friendly businesses in shopping areas.
The interactive map for New Westminster includes three stops:
Bikes for All, 924 12th St., which sells, services and rents bicycles.
Cap’s New Westminster, 434 East Columbia St., which sells and services bikes.
The map also shows the bike racks at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr., and states there are plenty of bike racks where cyclists can lock up their ride.
In addition to New Westminster — Downtown, other neighbourhoods taking part in the campaign include: Burnaby — The Amazing Brentwood; Coquitlam — Austin Heights; North Vancouver — central Lonsdale; Richmond — Steveston; Surrey — Newton; Vancouver — downtown Vancouver; and Vancouver — Kerrisdale.
According to HUB Cycling, “shopping by bike is easier than you think.” Its website includes some tips on shopping by bike and securing bike parking.
Founded in 1998 as the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition, HUB Cycling’s mission is to get more people cycling more often. It strives to improve cycling opportunities through education, action and events such as Bike to School Week, Go by Bike Week and Bike to Shop.
