Family fun in New West for Easter 2024

Easter egg hunts, scavenger hunts and photos with the Easter Bunny are among the offerings in New West this long weekend.

Here’s a rundown of some of the Easter-themed activities happening around town from Thursday, March 28 to Monday, April 1.

New West Farmers Market

The New West Farmers Market kicks off a long weekend filled with Easter-themed activities at its 2024 season kickoff on Thursday. Along with the return of market vendors, the March 28 Easter-themed block party includes: a themed giveaway; an afternoon Easter egg hunt around Tipperary Park; a visit from the Easter Bunny; live music; free treats for the first 100 visitors; a piñata; a photo booth; children’s activities; and a silent auction featuring gift baskets and prizes.

  • When: Thursday, March 28, 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Where: Tipperary Park, 315 Queens Ave. (next to New Westminster City Hall)

City of New Westminster Easter fun

Along with partnering with the New West Farmers Market on Easter activities at the March 28 market, the City of New Westminster has organized a variety of activities for local families all weekend long. Take note: Some of these events have sold out and are filling up fast, but wait lists are often available. These are some of the offerings but you can find details about these and all the others, including Easter chocolate-making sessions, online.

  • Saturday, March 30: Easter Skate Eggstravaganza is open to everyone. It’s at Moody Park Arena, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Admission rates apply
  • Monday, April 1: Gymnastics Family Hop-In at the Queen’s Park Sportsplex, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It costs $1.90
 

Scavenger Egg Hunt in Uptown

Community members are invited to take part in a fun-filled scavenger egg hunt through uptown – solving clues, discovering hidden treasures and enjoying family time in the uptown. Participants will have a chance to win gift baskets (worth more than $500) featuring items donated by uptown businesses.

  • When: Saturday, March 30, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Start your journey at VICI Learning Centre, 773 Sixth St., where you’ll collect your first clue

East Columbia Eggstravaganza

More than 40 Sapperton businesses will welcome folks on a scavenger hunt. The Eggstravaganza includes kids’ activities outside Cap’s Bicycle Store, photos with the Easter Bunny and a chance to win prizes from local businesses.

  • When: Two hunts are happening: Thursday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Sapperton – on East Columbia Street between Braid Street and Strand Avenue
  • Details: The route map is being posted online, or you can pop in to Cap’s Bicycle Store during Thursday or Saturday’s event to get a map of participating businesses

Ukrainian Cultural Event

The Ukrainian Cultural Event is organized by Ukrainian Blue Yellow Art volunteers, in partnership with Ukrainian Cultural Society. Friday features workshops from 1 to 4 p.m. (Pysanka – Ukrainian Easter egg decorating and Motanka doll magnets) and Saturday includes demonstrations from 2 to 5 p.m. (authentic headwear wrapping and Ukrainian modern embroidered headkerchiefs), as well as a Motanka dolls collection.  Ukrainian Easter bread and pastries will be available for purchase on both days.

  • Where: The Gallery at Queen’s Park, Centennial Lodge, Queen’s Park
  • When: Friday, March 29 – 1 to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, March 30 – 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Details: For workshops, registration and prepayment is required. For presentation, entrance is by donation. Details and registration available online

Free Family-Friendly Easter Event

Realtor Jesssica Bansal is hosting an Easter event for kids that includes a family Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts, coffee and hot cocoa, photos with the Easter Bunny, prizes and giveaways.
