Here’s a delicious brekky option that supports a worthy cause: a blackberry white chocolate scone.
Greens and Beans Deli will be baking a bunch of its popular menu item — scones — to support the non-profit, Wild West Animal League at the Scones & Bones fundraiser on Sunday, July 23.
While there will be the chocolatey version for humans, Leona Green, co-owner of the eatery, plans to whip up roast beef-flavoured scone bones for the pups who plan to attend, she said in a Facebook message.
All the scones will be sold by donation. The proceeds will go towards Wild West Animal League, an organization that helps address the “homeless animal and overpopulation crisis” in remote communities of B.C., according to the nonprofit's website.
The event raised about $5,000 last year; this year, the organization hopes to collect enough funds to support the spay/neuter surgeries in the Chilcotin region of B.C. — a seven-hour drive away from Vancouver.
“We are working hard to make sure no animals are having litters of puppies and kittens outside in -30 C temperatures this year,” the description read.
New Westies can contribute to the cause by showing up at the Sunday charity event along with their puppers.
Besides the scone bones, all pups will have a chance to enjoy pupsicles by Burke Mountain Barkery (partial proceeds go to WWAL) while getting enough play time at a "doggie fun zone," courtesy of Cathie’s Canine Connection & Co.
And while the pups have fun, the "pawrents" can try out tug toys and bioThane dog equipment from Fur Fluff’s Sake Pet Services and Products for their pooches — the sales of which will also contribute to the fundraiser.
Scones & Bones fundraiser is between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, at Greens and Beans Deli, 143 E Columbia St. Attendees can bring their bottles and cans to the bottle drive that will be on at the event.
