A power outage knocked out electricity to many New West neighbourhoods.

At 10:44 a.m. on Feb. 25, the City of New Westminster posted comments on social media saying it is aware of a large-scale power outage.

“Crews are investigating,” said the notice. “Please stayed tuned for updates.”

Residents and businesses from neighbourhoods across the city have reported having no power, including uptown, Queen’s Park, Sapperton, Glenbrook North, and parts of the downtown.

Some Quayside residents report their lights flickering, but the power did not go out.Around 11:30 a.m., some residents reported they once again had power.

The Record contacted New Westminster city hall for an update on the outage.

“Power has now been restored to all customers,” said Ashleigh Young, the city’s manager of communications. “The outage was caused by an issue with one of the transmission lines feeding our substation.”.

In March 2023, an outage left two-thirds of the city without power for just over an hour. That outage occurred after some work was being done at the city’s substation on Ovens and Colborne streets.
