New West police investigating a two-vehicle crash at Royal Avenue and 10th Street

Several roads in downtown New Westminster were closed to traffic this morning while police investigated a vehicle collision.

The New Westminster Police Departments closed off Royal Avenue (from Eighth Street to Stewardson Way) and 10th Street (from Agnes Street to Queens Avenue) to investigate the crash.

“We anticipate these roads will be closed for several hours,” said a NWPD tweet at 8:47 a.m. “Thank you for your patience #NewWest.”

According to the New Westminster Police Department, the collision happened at approximately 7:16 a.m. on July 13 in the intersection at Royal Avenue and 10th Street. Two vehicles are involved.

“We don’t know the nature of the driver’s injuries but we treated them as serious,” said the NWPD in an email to the Record. “At the moment our NWPD patrol officers are investigating this and they’re being assisted by our traffic unit. We’ll be investigating all contributing factors.”

Shortly after 11 a.m., the police department announced the roads had reopened.
