Man suffers non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in New West

New Westminster police believe a Sunday morning stabbing was not random and the victim and suspect know each other.

New Westminster police responded to an assault with a weapon call on Clarkson Street on Sunday morning.

A man suffered a stab wound to his shoulder during an assault in downtown New West on Sunday morning.

Around 7 a.m. on Jan. 19, New Westminster police officers were alerted to an assault with a weapon on Clarkson Street.

“Officers rushed to the scene and, with the assistance of New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services, located an adult male with a stab wound to his shoulder,” said a NWPD news release. “Officers provided aid to the victim and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics transported him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

New West police officers searched the area for CCTV, collected evidence, and spoke to people at the scene, said the news release.

“Within three hours, patrol officers located and arrested a suspect,” said the NWPD. “The assault does not appear to be random as it is believed the suspect and the victim are known to each other.”

According to the NWPD, the suspect was found to be violating court-ordered conditions.
