New West police are hoping to return a coin collection to its rightful owner.
The New Westminster Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in returning a coin collection, which was recently found in the downtown, to its owner.
“We know that coin collections often hold great sentimental value,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “This collection, dating back to the 1970s, is likely very special to someone, and we’re eager to return it to its rightful owner.”
According to the NWPD, the collection was handed in to the police department on May 14.
“The collection was found by a young person who was in the 400 block of Columbia Street,” said Hailey Finnigan, the New Westminster Police Department’s strategic communications coordinator. “They did the right thing and turned this into the police department.”
If you or someone you know owns the coin collection, call the New Westminster Police Department and reference file 24-7780.
New West police don’t have an estimate on the value of the collection.
“As with any found property, anyone who’s looking to claim the coin collection must provide proof that they are indeed the rightful owner,” Finnigan said in an email to the Record.
