The Downtown New Westminster Business Improvement Association recently elected a new board of directors.
Andy Bradshaw from the British Store is president. Michael Richardson from Redbrick Home and Harm Woldring from the Wine Factory are first and second vice-president, respectively. Dave Brown from the Cliff Block/ Lookout Society is secretary, while Carmen Uncao from CIBC is treasurer. Marise Kwasnicky from Tamath Estates is past president.
"These valuable volunteers enable the BIA to look forward to a very positive and productive year in 2012," Kendra Johnston, association manager, said in a press release.
Those serving twoyear terms are: Shelagh Anderson from Lofty Living; Craig Brennan, the Met Bar & Grill; Barry Buckland, the Columbia Theatre; Jason McGill, the Urban Gypsy; Kimberly Nicholl, New West Cycle, and Paul Romein, Techno Monkey Media.

DINE OUT FOR LIFE
New Westminster restaurants are rallying behind the 18th annual Dining Out For Life HIV/ AIDS fundraiser.
Three restaurants in New West - the Old Bavaria Haus Restaurant, the Terminal Pub and Wild Rice - are inviting guests to Dine Out For Life on Thursday, March 29. The event benefits Friends For Life and A Loving Spoonful.
"Invite your friends and dine out at one of the three participating restaurants in your neighbourhood on March 29," said Sheena Sargeant, executive director of Friends For Life. "By dining out, you will help put food on the table for British Columbians living with HIV/AIDS."
Participating restaurants will contribute 25 per cent of their sales that day to people living with HIV/ AIDS through A Loving Spoonful and Friends For Life.
"A couple spending $60 at a Dining Out For Life restaurant will provide meals for four people through Friends For Life and A Loving Spoonful," said Lisa Martella, executive director of A Loving Spoonful. For more information, visit www. DiningOutForLife.ca.
COOKING CLASS ON
Speaking of Wild Rice, seafood lovers can get the chance to learn some new culinary skills.
Wild Rice New Westminster is offering seafood-themed cooking classes this month.
Classes will be held on Mondays, March 12, 19 and 26 at 6 p.m. and cost $45, which includes a cocktail, followed by a four course dinner afterwards.
Dinner includes mini salmon spring rolls, crispy seafood wontons, house smoked sablefish with pumpkin fried rice and finished off with five-spice apple cake.
Executive chef Todd Bright will start off the class by taking apart a whole salmon.
