New West athletes shine at 2024 BC Summer Games

The 33rd version of the biannual games was held in Maple Ridge from July 17 to 21.

New Westminster's Yael Wagner Strasser brought home four medals from the 2024 BC Summer Games.

Numerous New Westminster athletes, coaches and officials have new hardware to hang at home after successful BC Summer Games performances. 

The 33rd version of the biannual games was held in Maple Ridge from July 17 to 21 and featured 22 different sports. 

New West athletes brought home three gold medals in individual events, three silver and one bronze. 

Team events involving New West athletes saw six gold medals, three silver and one bronze. 

Gold medalists included: 

  • Yael Wagner Strasser - Equestrian, mixed dressage (Day 3) 
  • Ethan Ochoco - Boys wrestling, 57 kg weight class
  • Illia Anoshyn - Boys wrestling, 70 kg weight class
  • Nathan Sall - Boys soccer
  • Dylan Jones - Boys volleyball
  • Brienne Lu - Girls volleyball
  • Illia Anoshyn - Wrestling, mixed team 
  • Illia Anoshyn - Wrestling, mixed dual
  • Gavin Domaas - Field lacrosse (mixed team)
  • Brodie Anderson - Field lacrosse (mixed team)
  • Jett Abel - Field lacrosse (mixed team)

Silver medalists included: 

  • Yael Wagner Strasser - Equestrian, mixed dressage (Day 1)
  • Yael Wagner Strasser - Equestrian, mixed dressage (Day 2) 
  • Yael Wagner Strasser - Equestrian, mixed dressage, overall
  • Olivia Robinson - Girls 4x100 metre relay, track and field
  • Parker Diaz - Boys 4x400 metre relay, track and field
  • Bianca Lima - Girls beach volleyball
  • Harrison Diaz - Box lacrosse (mixed team)
  • Joseph Rubino - Box lacrosse (mixed team)
  • Eli Smith - Box lacrosse (mixed team)
  • Linkin Twamley - Box lacrosse (mixed team)

Bronze medalists included: 

  • Olivia Robinson - Girls 100 metres, track and field
  • Roenik Kaila - Boys 3x3 basketball
