A New Westminster care aide college is suing a former international student, claiming the student was not serious about actually attending or completing the college’s courses.
Rohit Rana reportedly signed up for a 71-week acute care aide course at the New West-based Pacific Coast Community College, run by Burnaby-based BC Resident Care Aide Inc. The college claims Rana payed a $10,000 deposit of the total $18,488 owed.
After getting a letter of acceptance from the college, Rana allegedly gained a student visa to get into Canada and began the program on Oct. 7, 2019.
The college said Rana dropped out on Nov. 15 and asked for a full refund, of which the college was required by law to pay $1,306.
But in a recently filed lawsuit the college is claiming Rana committed fraud, or was at least negligent, when applying for a spot at the college. The college claims Rana made false or misleading statements when claiming an intent to enter, attend and complete the college’s program.
Because of those alleged actions, Pacific Coast claims it held a spot for Rana at a cost to the college. Because Rana used up a spot in a classroom, the college claims it could not fill that spot with someone who would complete the program and pay the full cost of the program.
Rana has not responded to the court’s claims.
