Two years ago, in the depths of COVID-19 restrictions, it was one of the very few events on the holiday calendar in New Westminster.
This year, the New West Farmers Market’s holiday market is just one event in a jam-packed festive season — but it’s undoubtedly going to be one of the highlights.
Market manager Quinn Kliewer and her team are gearing up for what promises to be their biggest market ever, as the NWFM Holiday Market returns to New Westminster City Hall on Dec. 10 and 11.
“Last year was the biggest market we’ve ever had, and I think this year we’re even going to exceed that,” Kliewer said. “We have a record number of vendors scheduled this year.”
That number? More than 90 — and all vendors will be on site both days, so shoppers don’t need to worry about which day to attend.
Their offerings will run the gamut of everything you could possibly need to get ready for the festive season.
On the food front, you’ll find baked goods, jams, sauces and other prepared foods, including vegan options, plus coffee, wine and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. On the gift front, you’ll be able to shop from handmade artisan wares including jewelry, pottery and home décor.
(Watch the New West Farmers Market website for the full vendor list as the date approaches.)
Plus, the market plans to offer up live entertainment both days, with performers to help get shoppers into the holiday spirit. A new addition to the lineup this year is the Music Box music studio, which will have carollers out to provide seasonal songs.
Add in six food trucks and the Sprout Club tent, with crafts and other kid-friendly activities all weekend long, and you’ve got yourself a full, family-friendly outing for all ages.
The market team is anticipating potential record attendance this year; given that 2,500 folks turned out last year, they’re prepared to handle more than that.
And, yes, the event will go ahead regardless of weather — so rain, snow or shine, you’ll find Kliewer and her team of volunteers out helping to spread holiday cheer.
The market is dog-friendly, open to all ages and wheelchair-accessible.
“I think people are pretty bummed out once the regular season ends, so the fact we get to come back for another weekend during the winter for our community is great,” Kliewer said.
