New West man charged after brazen daytime robbery at PoCo car dealership

Charges laid in connection to a robbery at a car dealership that prompted a police response in several cities in November

A New Westminster man has been charged in connection to last month’s armed robbery in Port Coquitlam that traumatized employees at a car dealership and required a police response in several communities.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 3, police responded to a car dealership near Lougheed Highway and Dominion Avenue in Port Coquitlam, after receiving a report of a robbery involving firearms and four suspects.

At the time of the incident, Coquitlam RCMP stated that the suspects were observed stealing a vehicle from the dealership and that there was an exchange of gunfire with responding police officers. Police said the stolen vehicle crashed on Highway 1 near the King Edward overpass and the suspects fled on foot.

On that day, one suspect was located at the scene and was arrested by responding officers, while another was arrested in Surrey after allegedly carjacking a nearby vehicle and fleeing to Surrey. Police continued to search for two outstanding suspects.

On Dec. 13, Coquitlam RCMP announced that charges have now been laid against two 22-year-old men in connection to the armed robbery at the Journey Chrysler car dealership.

According to a press release, Coquitlam RCMP are still actively working on gathering evidence against all suspects involved in the incident.

“Our Coquitlam Major Crime Unit continues to search for additional evidence to determine the complete circumstances of the robbery and shots fired on Nov. 22, 2022,” Coquitlam RCMP Corp. Alexa Hodgins said in the news release. “We are asking the individuals involved in this incident to turn themselves in immediately, as our officers continue to follow up on all investigational avenues.”

Kwabena Bosiako of Port Coquitlam and Omar Demetris of New Westminster have both charged with one count of robbery. Both men remain in custody.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the outstanding suspect is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550, and quote file number 2022-30931.

At the time of the incident, Coquitlam RCMP thanked their policing partners in Burnaby, Surrey, New Westminster, Vancouver, Maple Ridge and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT) for their assistance.

“This was a very dynamic investigation with multiple crime scenes, which required additional assistance from numerous jurisdictions,” Hodgins said in November.
