New Westminster police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect after a woman reported being sexually assaulted by an unknown assailant.

A news release from the New Westminster Police Department said a woman told officers that a man had sexually assaulted her inside his vehicle, after offering her a ride in the 500-block of Sixth Street. She called police for help on Sunday, Feb. 9 at about 1:20 a.m.

New Westminster police officers are now appealing for the public’s assistance in helping them identify the alleged suspect, in the hopes of furthering their investigation.

The suspect is described as male, between 30 to 40 years of age, and dark skinned (possibly South Asian in appearance); he was wearing a baseball cap, white long-sleeve shirt, and a dark vest.

The suspect was driving a white, newer-model, four-door vehicle.

Investigators are collecting CCTV and speaking with people who were in the area.

“Our team is actively reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said in the news release. “If you were in the area around this time or have any relevant information, please contact us.”

Police are seeking dash-cam footage from the 500-block of Sixth Street between the hours of 1 and 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Anyone who has information about the assault is asked to call the New Westminster Police Department’s specialized investigations unit at 604-525-5411.

According to the NWPD, the victim is being supported by the department’s specially trained victim assistance unit staff.
