A 30-year-old Surrey resident was arrested after being caught carrying assorted stolen items at a construction site in Sapperton.
The New Westminster Police Department reports that officers were called to a construction site on Nelson’s Crescent in the early hours of Monday, March 28. A security company alerted police to a break-and-enter in progress, after surveillance cameras showing a suspect on the site picking up items.
“The managers of this construction site did the right thing in setting up monitored surveillance,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar in a news release. “We encourage all businesses to work with us to proactively to prevent thefts. If you haven’t spoken to us already we’d be happy to talk about what security options you can consider for your business.”
According to the NWPD, as officers searched the construction site they observed someone matching the suspect description walking out of a trailer carrying boxes of items. NWPD officers took him into custody.
The police department told the Record the stolen items included hand sanitizer, zip ties, drill bits, a commercial swivel anchor, a flashlight and some tie-down straps.
The New Westminster Police Department reminds residents to call 911 if they see a break-and-enter in progress.
