New Westminster police are investigating a pedestrian fatality on McBride Boulevard this morning.
Sgt. Andrew Leaver of the New Westminster Police Department said a pedestrian has died after being struck by a driver in the 300 block of McBride Boulevard. The crash occurred this morning (Dec. 18) in the 300 block of McBride Boulevard.
“The New Westminster Police Major Crime Unit have assumed conduct of this investigation and are being supported by the RCMP Integrated Collision and Reconstruction Services Unit,” he said in a statement to the Record.
According to a NWPD news release, the driver of the vehicle remained on scene. All of the contributing factors are still under investigation.
As of 9 a.m., McBride Boulevard remained closed to traffic in all directions between Sixth Avenue and Memorial Drive.
“We anticipate road closures to be in effect for several hours as our officers gather evidence to determine what may have caused the collision,” Leaver said. “We ask motorists to plan alternate routes.”
Anyone who witnessed this collision and has not spoken to police is asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department.
“If anyone witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. in the area of McBride Boulevard between Sixth Avenue and Memorial Drive, we ask they contact us at 604-529-2430,” Leaver said.
