No one was injured when shots rang out in a Queensborough neighbourhood late Monday night.
The New Westminster Police Department received multiple calls about shots fired in the area of Hendry Place in Queensborough on Monday, Oct. 18 at around 11:45 p.m. Numerous police cars attended and confirmed that shots had been fired at a residence.
“I heard what sounded like six gunshots, then a car speed by afterward,” stated a comment posted to social media.
According to a NWPD press release, the occupants of the home were sleeping at the time of the shooting. Police say it’s fortunate that no one was injured.
“It’s very upsetting to see such disregard for public safety, as this shooting took place in a residential neighbourhood,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release. “We are in the early stages of this investigation. At this time we do not believe this incident to be related to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, but believe this was a targeted shooting.”
The police department’s major crime unit is leading the investigation, with support from the forensic identification section and other units. Officers are collecting evidence, CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.
The New Westminster Police Department is that asking any area residents who have CCTV cameras and have not yet spoken to police to call investigators at 604-529-2430.
