New Westminster police are searching for a blue Pontiac Sunfire that’s believed to be connected to a brutal assault just before Christmas.
The New Westminster Police Department is also appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage connected to the incident, in which a man was found unconscious and suffering from serious injuries near Begbie and Carnarvon Street. Police say the man was sent to hospital and treated for “life-altering injuries” following the incident, which happened on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022 at about 11:15 p.m.
“While I can’t speak to any specific injuries the victim sustained, I can say that the level of violence involved in this attack is a public safety concern,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom. “We’re asking the public to take a close look at the video we shared of the suspect vehicle because it’s imperative we identify this suspect and have them held accountable for this assault.”
At this stage in the investigation, Thom said police don’t believe the suspect is known to the victim. The victim, a New West man in his 50s, was found unconscious by a passerby.
An investigation by the New Westminster Police Department’s major crime unit has learned the victim was assaulted by someone who was with two other people at the time of the assault. After the assault, police say the group left the area in a vehicle.
“We’re looking for information on this vehicle,” Thom said. “A blue, four-door, Pontiac Sunfire with black rims.”
Anyone with information on this vehicle or people involved in the incident is asked to call the NWPD’s major crime unit tip line at 604-529-2430 or email [email protected].
