New Westminster Police are seeking witnesses to a shooting in the downtown.

New West police are investigating after a man showed up at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

The New Westminster Police Department said a man with a gunshot wound went to the hospital in the early hours of Monday, Oct. 2. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

In a news release, the New Westminster Police Department stated that further investigation by patrol and Major Crime Unit members determined the shooting had occurred at a residence on Agnes Street.

“This investigation is in the early stages, and investigators believe this is an isolated incident,” said the news release.

The Major Crime Unit is seeking any dash-cam or CCTV footage from the 300 block of Agnes Street between the hours of 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 2.

“We’re appealing to taxi drivers, transit drivers, shift workers and others who may have been out at this early hour,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Additionally, if you have knowledge about this incident, we’re here to listen.”

In order to protect the privacy of the victim, the New Westminster Police Department is not releasing details about where the victim, a man in his 30s, was shot.

According to Leaver, investigators are working with the victim and any witnesses to try determine who the suspect is, and what relationship, if any, they have to the victim. No description of the suspect has been released.

“At this time, investigators are working to identify a suspect,” Leaver said. “We’re asking for the public’s help. If you were in the 300 block of Agnes between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. and you saw anything suspicious or have dash cam footage, we ask you reach out to us."

Any witnesses who haven’t yet spoken to police are asked to contact Major Crime Unit investigators at 604-529-2430.
