New Westminster police are seeking witnesses who may have seen an senior assaulted with bear spray on Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses called police after seeing a man being assaulted with bear spray. The incident occurred near the intersection of Eighth Street and Queens Avenue at about 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
“We believe the suspect and the victim are not known to one another,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom said in a media release. “Given the time of day and the location of this incident, we believe there were witnesses who have not yet come forward.”
According to the NWPD, officers searched the area for someone matching the suspect’s description, and provided aid to the victim, who was in his 60s. Despite a search of the surrounding area, police couldn’t find anyone matching the suspect’s description.
Police are canvassing the area for CCTV footage and asking that anyone who witnessed this assault and has not yet spoken to police to contact the New Westminster Police Department to share what they saw.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 40 years old, with a medium build, carrying a backpack and wearing a blue jacket. The suspect is described as walking with a hunch.
