Two people sustained “minor injuries” in an alleged assault in Uptown New West.
The New Westminster Police Department received a 911 call on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at about 9 a.m. from someone reporting that two people had been assaulted while walking in the 600 block of Sixth Street.
“Officers rushed to the scene, located the victims, and searched for the suspect. The victims did not know the suspect,” said a NWPD press release. “BC Ambulance attended the scene to assess what appeared to be minor injuries.”
New West police were unable to locate anyone matching the suspect description and are now appealing to the public to help identify a person shown in a CCTV photo.
The suspect is described as a heavyset male, approximately 35 years of age, wearing tan work pants and a blue plaid jacket.
“It is believed that before these assaults took place the suspect was shouting at people walking in the area,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom. “If you saw this suspect in the area or you have information that can help in identifying this person and you haven’t yet spoken to police, please call us.”
A NWPD spokesperson said no weapons were used in the assault. The suspect allegedly struck the passersby.
