New West police are seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage connected to an incident that occurred near the Pattullo Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

According to a news release from the New Westminster Police Department, an officer on patrol was en route to a vehicle collision at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 18 when he observed a man running in and out of traffic, putting his own safety and the safety of drivers at risk.

“The officer stopped his vehicle and blocked the flow of traffic directly under the Pattullo Bridge on Columbia Street,” said the news release. “The officer provided instructions to the man that would assist in him being safely arrested. Initially, the man did not comply and was throwing objects until additional officers arrived on scene, at which time he was safely taken into custody.”

New West police are asking witnesses and people who were in the area and have dash-cam footage to contact them about what they saw. Criminal charges against the man are being considered.

“We want to get a more complete understanding of what occurred,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver, the NWPD’s media relations officer. “We’re asking anyone who saw this incident to please reach out to us.”
