New Westminster residents who don’t have a family doctor can get care from a new virtual medical clinic.

The Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice has launched the clinic for patients in New Westminster and the Tri-Cities. It will give patients a virtual appointment with a family physician in the region.

“With this service, we want to provide timely access to care for patients who might not have anywhere else to go,” said Dr. Nimeera Kassam, physician lead for the virtual clinic, in a press release from the Division of Family Practice.

The release notes the goal of the clinic is to ensure the safety of the community – including looking after patients’ well-being and reducing the burden on local emergency departments.

If patients already have a family doctor, they’re encouraged to connect with their own doctor first.

Those who are looking for a family doctor can join the Fraser Northwest attachment waitlist, which will place them on the waiting list for a family doctor in the region.

“The wait for a family doctor can be incredibly long. It’s important that patients have somewhere they can access care in the meantime, from providers who are familiar with local services and resources,” Kassam said.
