A New Westminster actor is in the spotlight as Stage 43 continues its 40th anniversary season with a familiar — and much-loved — story.
Calendar Girls is onstage at the Evergreen Cultural Centre Jan. 12 to 21.
New Westminster’s Corrine Out is featured as Ruth in the production, which is based on the popular 2003 British comedy film of the same name.
Tim Firth’s play follows the story of Annie (Kate du Cros) who teams up with her best friend Chris (Colleen Brow) to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room after Annie’s husband dies of leukemia.
The two manage to persuade fellow members of the Women’s Institute to pose nude with them for a fundraising calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence (Casey Por).
The production, directed by Tiffany Markwart, also features Lisa Pope as Celia, Lorene Stuart as Cora, Sue Davey as Jessie, Ross Friesen as John, Liam Coughlan as Rod, September Stokes as Marie, Judy McLellan as Lady Cravenshire, Sharon Notarrigo as Brenda Hulse, Kelsey Robertson as Elaine and Dominic Renaud as Liam.
The play is based on the true story of a group of middle-aged Yorkshire women who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund.
