It may take motorists a little longer to get from downtown New West to Sapperton next week if they’re travelling along Columbia Street next week.
As part of the ongoing work on the Pattullo Bridge replacement project, nighttime single-lane alternating traffic will be in place on Columbia Street for about three nights during the week of Nov. 4. The single-lane, alternating traffic will be in effect from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
“During the week of Nov. 4, Fraser Crossing Partners will be installing panels for the retaining wall on the south side of Columbia Street, just west of McBride Boulevard, as part of construction of the new East Columbia Street off-ramp. This work will take approximately three nights to complete,” said a notice from the Pattullo Bridge replacement project. “While this work is underway, single-lane, alternating traffic will be in effect at night on Columbia Street between McBride Boulevard and the existing Pattullo Bridge to provide crews with space for a crane required to complete the work.”
According to the notice, this work is being conducted at night to minimize disruption to traffic and is not anticipated to be noisy. Traffic control personnel will control the McBride Boulevard and Columbia Street intersection.
“Drivers may experience longer than normal travel times due to lane closures,” said the notice.
The new crossing that is being built will replace the Pattullo Bridge, which was built in 1937. The new bridge, originally projected to cost $1.4 billion, is expected to open in fall 2025.
