Poor weather means motorists will face closures on the Pattullo Bridge next week instead of this week.
As part of Fraser Crossing Partners’ work on the replacement project, the Pattullo Bridge was supposed to be closed in both directions tonight. That work has now been rescheduled to next week.
“This closure was originally scheduled for Nov. 10 but was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions,” said a notice from the project team. “This closure is required for Fraser Crossing Partners to update lane configurations on the bridge approaches in both New Westminster and Surrey to accommodate additional construction activities.”
According to the notice, the Pattullo Bridge will now be closed in both directions from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16.
“This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if required,” stated the notice. “Please watch for updates on street signage and traffic message boards.”
Pattullo Bridge users are encouraged to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges during the closure.
Northbound and southbound N19 NightBus trips will be rerouted over the Queensborough and Alex Fraser bridges, and affected customers should plan for an additional 30 minutes of travel time.
Emergency vehicle access, and access for pedestrians and cyclists, will be maintained.
In addition to the full bridge closure, an overnight closure of the southbound bridge connector in New West has also been rescheduled because of poor weather conditions. Instead of occurring on Nov. 9, this closure will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
From 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, drivers on bridge connector going to Surrey will be detoured to the Columbia Street loop-ramp to access the Pattullo Bridge.
“Drivers may experience temporary delays resulting from the detour,” said the notice. “We appreciate your patience while this work is underway.”
Like the full bridge closure, this closure is required so crews to update the lane configuration on the bridge approach to accommodate additional construction activities.
The new bridge, scheduled to open in 2024, is being built just upstream of the existing Pattullo Bridge.
