PechaKucha New West is promising good vibes and creative presentations for Volume 33.
Launched in New Westminster in 2012, the latest PechaKucha New West event is set for Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Sapperton Community Hall. The evening includes 10 speakers who will present 20 slides for 20 seconds each – providing thought-provoking, entertaining, touching, or interesting glimpses into their passions and interests.
“A PechaKucha night in New West goes beyond presentations,” PKNW president Ria Renouf said in a news release. “These are wonderful events to meet your friends and neighbours for a low-barrier, safe, and welcoming evening of fun. We’re excited to have DJ Machinale of Social Medium to also provide a musical set.”
Beer, wine, and other non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and speakers will start at 8 p.m.; people are encouraged to arrive early and socialize.
Tickets are $10, plus service fees.
Tickets can be purchased online, where event details and a list of presenters (yet to be added) and past presentations can also be found.
Founded in Tokyo in 2003, PechaKucha events have now spread to more than 1,300 cities around the world. PechaKucha translates to “chit chat” in Japanese.
PKNW, a volunteer-run non-profit society, hosts evening events in New West that follow the 20 x 20 format, with each presentation clocking in at about six minutes and 40 seconds.
