A multi-vehicle crash involving a dump truck sent several people to hospital with minor injuries Tuesday afternoon.
New Westminster Police Department Sgt. Andrew Leaver said a dump truck travelling eastbound on Holmes Street went into oncoming traffic on East Columbia Street about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14.
“The dump truck struck a pole, and collided with another vehicle, which was then rear-ended by a third vehicle,” he said in an email to the Record. “Three people were transported to hospital with minor injuries.”
According to Leaver, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
East Columbia Street near Holmes Street was temporarily closed to traffic because of the incident.
Jeff Gill, deputy fire chief – operations/training, said New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services crews attended the incident, which involved a dump truck and three other vehicles.
“Upon arrival of our crews, occupants of the vehicles were out of their respective vehicles,” he said. “The occupants were assessed on scene by our crews and were passed off to the BC Ambulance Service for further assessment and treatment as needed.”
Gill said the City of New Westminster’s electrical department also attended the incident because a street lamp post had been sheared off.
