Photos: New West schools compete at Fraser North cross country championships

The Fraser North cross country championships at Coquitlam's Mundy Park, featured hundreds of runners from schools in New Westminster, the Tri-Cities, Burnaby and Maple Ridge.

New Westminster high school athletes braved the chilly air on Wednesday, Oct. 23, while competing in the 2024 Fraser North zone cross country championships at Mundy Park in Coquitlam.

The event featured hundreds of runners from schools in New West, the Tri-Cities, Burnaby and Maple Ridge.

New Westminster Secondary cracked the top 10 out of 17 schools in the 4 km junior boys division; John Knox Christian finished in 12th.

Hyacks' Finn Moreland sped to 14th place out of 136 racers in the category with a time of 19:14.3. Teammate Henry Thomson was not far behind in 25th at 19:48.4, while Hawks' Timothy Glenu claimed 22nd at 19:40.7. 

Moreland, Thomson and Glenu are heading to the junior boys provincials race on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Jericho Park in Vancouver.

Fiona Robinson of École Glenbrook Middle School, 18th out of 92 racers with a time of 21:50.1, qualified for junior girls provincials next weekend. 

On the senior side, Hyacks' Corinna Talbot is off to the AAA girls' provincials after finishing 19th out of 86 athletes with a time of 24:46.3.

Annika Jessome, also of New West Secondary, finished 45th in the junior girls competition with a time of 24:04.2.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Timmer and Timothy Li finished in the top 20 of the 5 km senior boys event — 14th and 17th respectively for John Knox at seven seconds apart.
