Thousands of folks turned out to downtown New Westminster on Saturday for the first-ever Car Free Day New West.
The event saw Columbia Street shut down to cars and turned over instead to three stages of entertainment, plus food trucks, a beer garden, vendors and family activities. The fun ran from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6.
Car Free Day was an evolution of the Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Festival, which had taken a forced two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To reinvigorate the event this year, the Downtown New Westminster Business Improvement Association and the City of New Westminster worked with TransLink to present the first Car Free Day in New West.
Photographer Jennifer Gauthier was on hand to capture the action. Here's some of what she found.
