Adam Wasik is originally from Ontario, so the idea of building a snow fort wasn't new to him.
But for his kids? Living in New Westminster doesn't really bring the kind of snow that makes it possible to build a serious snow fort — at least, not usually.
The Wasik boys, like many other excited children in New West, woke to an unusually white world on Sunday morning after more than 20 centimetres of snow fell on the city during a heavy Saturday night snowfall. And it wasn't a light, powdery, dry snow, but the heavy kind that rolls and packs well.
They weren't about to let the chance go to waste.
Adam was "thrilled to teach our boys the fine art of snow tunnelling," Jeanine Wasik wrote in an email to the Record.
Soon Atlas, 9, and Bishop, 7, were hard at work putting the white stuff to good use.
"While the sun shone, the boys worked away at piling, digging and compacting shovel after shovel load until it was complete," Jeanine wrote. "Several of the neighbourhood kids enjoyed playing in the fortress this afternoon, and lots of fun memories were made."
Besides being the construction site supervisor for Sunday's endeavours, Adam is also principal at John Knox Christian Secondary School in New Westminster.
Thanks to the Wasik family for sharing their photos of their snowfall adventures.
