Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
New Westminster Police Board has appointed 30-year policing veteran Dave Jansen as Chief Constable of the local police department, a role he’s been doing since the departure of former police chief Dave Jones in April 2019.
“On behalf of the New Westminster Police Board, and the entire community, I’m proud to offer my congratulations to Chief Constable Jansen on his appointment,” said New West Mayor Jonathan Cote, Mayor, who is also chair of the police board, in a statement. “Since starting his policing career with NWPD, Chief Constable Jansen has steadily progressed through the ranks of the department and is taking on his position at a very important time. I know his passion for safety and solid record of service to our community will be strong motivators for both the uniformed members and civilian staff that he leads.”
The police board said it had conducted a national search to fill the role.
“Ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in our community has remained a key guiding principle for me throughout my policing career,” said Jansen, in a statement. “As New Westminster continues to evolve and grow, I recognize that there are significant challenges ahead. I want NWPD to play a positive leadership role in addressing those challenges – one in which all citizens of New Westminster can be proud.”
