A suspect with a lengthy criminal record was arrested after police responded to a call about a man cocking a firearm in uptown New West.
The New Westminster Police Department responded to a 911 call from someone saying he was witnessing a man cocking a firearm near Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street. The alleged incident occurred on Saturday, March 29 at about 4:30 p.m.
“Police flooded the area and located someone matching the suspect description,” said a NWPD news release. “The suspect complied with police instructions and was arrested.”
According to the NWPD, police searched the suspect and located a pistol.
“Thanks to the brave officers who located and quickly arrested this armed suspect,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “This suspect has a lengthy criminal history.”
The police department expressed thanks to the person who called 911. At this time, the suspect remains in police custody.
The New Westminster Police Department is recommending charges of one count of breach of probation, five counts of possession contrary to order, and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
