New Westminster police seized a replica handgun and two cans of bear repellent spray after getting a 911 call from a youth saying she’d been “accosted” in Moody Park.
The New Westminster Police Department reports receiving a 911 call about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 from a park user alledging that a group of people had accosted her – and someone had pointed a can of bear repellent spray at her.
New Westminster police officers went to Moody Park, where they located and arrested three individuals matching the suspect descriptions. Police also seized a replica handgun and two cans of bear repellent spray from the individuals.
“Thanks to this youth calling 911, we were able to locate and arrest these suspects,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom said in a news release. “If you ever feel unsafe in one of New Westminster’s parks, know that you can call 911 and we will be there.”
New West police are reminding members of the public to call 911 if someone’s behavior ever makes them feel unsafe in any of New Westminster’s parks.
The New Westminster Police Department asks anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information, and hasn’t yet spoken to police, to call investigators at 604-525-5411.
The case is still under investigation.
