The dilapidated vessel that bought hundreds of Sri Lankan migrants to Canada has made the journey to its final home.
Donna Maclean snapped these photos on Aug. 30 of tugboats leading the MV Sun Sea from Annacis Island to a Nanaimo shipyard, where it will be dismantled, stripped and recycled. The vessel, which brought 492 Tamil refugees fleeing Sri Lanka to Canada in August 2010, has been located on the waterfront near Queensborough since 2012.
In June, the Canada Border Services Agency awarded a $4-million contract to Canadian Maritime Engineering Ltd. For the recycling and disposal of the vessel.
