New Westminster residents and businesses are now able to complete a survey about the city's 2025 budget.

It’s time to share your thoughts on the City of New Westminster’s 2025 budget.

In July, council directed staff to proceed with engagement related to the city’s 2025 budget. That includes hiring Ipsos to conduct a random survey of 10,000 residents and more than 1,000 businesses in the city – and providing residents and businesses who aren’t contacted with an opportunity to participate in an online survey.

The budget 2025 survey is now available online and open until Monday, Sept. 2. Paper copes will also be available at some civic facilities.

“Ipsos is conducting this survey on behalf of the city to learn residents’ thoughts on important community issues, city services, and priorities for investment,” said the survey. “The results of the survey will help guide the preparation of future city budgets.”

According to Ipsos, the survey will take around 15 minutes to complete. All responses are collected anonymously and are confidential.

“The City of New Westminster is currently preparing the financial plan for 2025 to 2029, building on the strong foundation established in previous years,” said the city’s website. “The budget development process for 2025 will reflect our commitment to financial sustainability, community engagement, and council’s strategic priorities, while addressing the evolving needs of our diverse population.”

According to the city, a significant focus for the 2025 budget will be addressing the ongoing impacts of inflation, managing growth, and ensuring that services and infrastructure evolve in tandem with New Westminster’s development. The city will also examine new funding opportunities, including potential grants and partnerships, to support its capital projects and operational needs.

“All residents and business owners/operators are encouraged to participate in the budget process, as every contribution helps to ensure that the financial plan effectively supports our shared vision for a thriving and sustainable community,” said the city. “Community input will continue to play a key role in shaping a budget that reflects the values and priorities of our diverse city.”

Community engagement will take place in August and September, followed by workshops, ultimately leading to consideration and approval of the 2025 budget and five-year financial plan bylaw.
