A suspect has been arrested in connection to dozens of vehicle break-ins spanning several months.
New Westminster Police Department is recommending 40 charges to Crown counsel after officers arrested a suspect allegedly connected to six different break-and-enter investigations. The NWPD reports that one of those investigations began in an underground parking garage where police found 10 different vehicles had been broken into.
“Out of the six investigations, one began in October of last year, one began in December of last year, and the remaining four were conducted this month,” NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver told the Record. “All six investigations took place in the Downtown neighbourhood.”
According to a NWPD news release, the suspect was also found to be breaching several court-ordered conditions.
This investigation was led by the New Westminster Police Department’s street crime unit, and supported by patrol officers, the forensic Identification unit, and the criminal intelligence unit.
The suspect remains in police custody.
“I’d say to criminals that New Westminster is not the place,” Leaver said in the news release. “These teams are the best at what they do. You can try to cover your tracks; it won’t work.”
The New Westminster Police Department is grateful to the citizens and resident managers who take the time to report break-ins and assist police in their work. The department reminds residents about the importance of calling 911 when they see what they believe to be a break and enter in progress.
