Some Quayside residents may notice an increased police presence in the neighbourhood following an incident on Sunday that was attended by numerous police officers.
Members of the New Westminster Police Department attended a highrise in the 1200 block of Quayside Drive around 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10.
“Police attended the Quayside neighbourhood after learning that a man with a history of violent offences was seen violating his court-ordered conditions,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We have since made an arrest.”
The incident – which was also attended by members of the Emergency Response team – prompted safety concerns among some residents in the area. While the ERT had left the scene by around 7 p.m., members of the New Westminster Police Department remained on the scene.
“Residents will notice there’s been an increased police presence,” Leaver said. “We appreciate the support and cooperation of those residents. We’re here to ensure their safety.”
In a statement to the Record, the NWPD said the increased police presence in the area achieves a number of things: it helps to deter crime, and it demonstrates to residents that the police department takes their safety concerns seriously.
