Swimmers can take a dip (or learn to swim) at Moody Park Outdoor Pool starting April 23

Can’t go to Hawaii? It’s a balmy 27 C at this New West pool

Moody Park Outdoor Pool opens April 23 - with the water being a comfortable 27C.

There may still be a chill in the air, but it’s a balmy 27 C at Moody Park Outdoor Pool.

Starting Saturday, April 23, the pool will be open seven days a week. The pool normally opens at the end of June, but the city decided to extend its season in an effort to mitigate the loss of aquatic services that arose with the unexpected closure of Canada Games Pool in September 2021.

“The City of New Westminster recreation services team has been working hard to get Moody Park Outdoor Pool up and running for its extended operational season,” said Corrinne Garrett, senior manager of recreation services and facilities. “The pool is ready, and so are we. City of New West staff want to welcome you back to aquatic services!”

The city is encouraging community members to bring towels and bath robes for traversing between the heated change rooms and the pool. The pool is currently operating at 27 C (81 F), and two tents have been erected on the pool deck with one wall to provide a windbreak.

The city is taking online reservations for swims at Moody Park Outdoor Pool up to three days in advance.

Admission to the pool is $2 for lane swims, leisure swims and adult swims and $6.50 for Aquafit and Aqua Zumba. Spaces can be booked online.

In addition to public swims, lessons also start on April 23. They’re currently running Saturdays and Tuesdays/ Thursdays.

While Hume Park Outdoor Pool didn’t open for the summer of 2021, it’s also set to reopen this summer.

“Hume Park Outdoor Pool is still on schedule to open at the end of June,” Garrett said. “Capital renovation projects are currently taking place, and will re-open to the public with a much-needed facelift come the Canada Day long weekend.”

Both pools will remain open until Oct. 10. Lane swimming, swimming lessons, leisure swims and Aquafit will be offered at both outdoor facilities.

Details about programs and service being offered at the pool can be found in the city’s Active Living Guide.
