Mid Century Modern magazine star sells over asking in eight days

This "meticulously renovated" 1962 home sold for $1.8 million — above its asking price of $1.725M.

Real estate sales may be slower than they were this time last year, but it didn't take long for a Mid Century Modern gem in New Westminster to sell over asking.

The home at 149 Harvey St. was first built in 1962 and featured in a 1963 edition of Western Living. It was put up for sale on Nov. 21 for $1.725 million, and it sold on Nov. 29 for $1.8 million, according to Zealty.ca — 4.3 per cent over asking. The sale was reported Dec. 1.

The home was “meticulously renovated” in 2014, its listing noted, and it won several honours over the years: it was a finalist in the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association Ovation Awards and Georgie Awards, and it was featured on the 2017 New Westminster Heritage Homes Tour.

The split-level, post-and-beam home is built with an open concept living space that features a vaulted ceiling and a limestone fireplace, plus a high-end kitchen for those who like to entertain.

The three-bedroom, four-bathroom home includes 2,259 of finished living space.

Its MLS sales history shows the property was previously sold in May 2013 after 10 days on the market. Then, it was listed at $649,800 and sold for $655,000.
