Three people stabbed and one suspect arrested at restaurant in New West casino

Three people suffered serious but non-life-threatening lacerations after being stabbed in a restaurant inside the Starlight Casino.

New West police officers responded to a 911 call of a report of a stabbing in a restaurant at the Queensborough casino about 12:29 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26New West police say the victims provided with first aid at the scene and transported to hospital.

According to a NWPD news release, an altercation took place between two groups of people on the patio of the restaurant inside the casino.

“Two groups of people who were not known to each other and became involved in a fight with edged weapons,” said the news release. “One suspect was arrested at the scene with the help of witnesses. Police are working to identify and locate the other suspects.”

New Westminster Police Department Investigators spent several hours gathering evidence in and around the scene.

“At this time, we believe this is an isolated incident,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Within minutes of receiving the call to 911 our officers located and arrested one suspect. We’re asking for the public to help us in identifying the other individuals involved in this altercation.”

Numerous residents took to social media to report seeing numerous police cars and ambulances heading over the Queensborough Bridge early this morning.

The New Westminster Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to please share with police what they saw. Additionally, detectives are asking people who have cell phone video from the Starlight Casino between the hours of midnight and 1 a.m. to call the Major Crime Unit at 604-529-2430 or email [email protected].
