This issue, we have free workshops on managing stress and culture shock, a poker game fundraiser for the Salmonbellies and a charity luncheon.

1Don't miss the Sapperton Day festival on Sunday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the 400 block of East Columbia Street. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which features live entertainment, bouncy castles, clowns, games, mini donuts, a pancake breakfast, a rock climbing wall, vendors and more.

The Sapperton Business Association organizes the festival, which has been around since the 1970s. Proceeds go to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.

2 Learn how to manage stress at a workshop at the New Westminster Public Library on Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Learn how to adjust to new environments, how to improve your quality of life and how to develop stress management skills. Workshop conducted in English, with translation available in French, Chichewa, Nyanja, Lingala and Swahili.

The Library is at 716 Sixth Ave. and is wheelchair-accessible. For more information and to register, phone SUCCESS at 604-430-1899 ext. 110. Classes co-sponsored by New Westminster Public Library and SUCCESS.

3 Struggling with culture shock? There's a free workshop on that, too, on Friday, June 8 at the New Westminster Public Library, 1 to 4 p.m. The event is conducted in English with Spanish translation available. For info/ registration, call MOSAIC at 604-522-3722 ext. 155.

4 The Small Change - Big Hearts fundraising lunch is taking place on Sunday, June 10 at noon at the St. Barnabas parish hall at 1010 Fifth Ave. The event will also feature a raffle for several gift baskets.

Tickets for the luncheon are $10 for adults and $5 for children. People are also encouraged to bring their piggy banks - because every little bit adds up. The fundraising lunch is being held in celebration of the Patronage Festival of St. Barnabas; June 11 is the Feast Day of Saint Barnabas, a day set aside in Christian custom to commemorate martyrs on the dates of their deaths and celebrate their birth into heaven. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the church at 604-525-6646.

5 Get your chips out for the Salmonbellies Peewee A1 Boys Lacrosse Texas Hold 'Em Poker Fundraiser on Friday, June 8 at 6 p.m. The event is at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club, 3760 Sperling Ave. Tickets are $100. The grand prize is $1,000 for first place, $750 for second and $250 for third.
