The New Westminster Police Department has released an update in response to an incident that happened at the station on Wednesday, July 23 at about 6:20 p.m.
Police received a report of a man who had pushed a woman off the platform under an oncoming SkyTrain, a police press release says.

A 24-year-old man remained on scene and was taken into custody by members of the New Westminster Police Department, police say.
A 32-year-old woman was initially trapped under the SkyTrain. Once she was freed, she was transported by British Columbia Ambulance Service to hospital. Police say she was conscious and talking and that her injuries were “serious but non-life-threatening.”
The New Westminster Police Department’s major crime unit took over the investigation and has interviewed witnesses, reviewed SkyTrain video and interviewed the man.
“The evidence to date revealed that the victim had a physical altercation with someone on the platform,” Acting Inspector Andrew Perry said in the press release. “The male that was taken into custody has been released pending further investigation, and no charges have been laid at this time.”
The incident is still under investigation, and police say there were people on the platform at the time of this incident that investigators have not spoken with. Police are encouraging all potential witnesses to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
The department’s Victim Assistance Unit is available to support anyone who saw the incident happen.
