Vehicle that landed in New West family's backyard believed to be stolen

Luckily, nobody was in the backyard

A horrific crash on Sunday morning that saw a driver busting a vehicle through a cinderblock wall and landing in a New Westminster family’s backyard, allegedly involved a stolen vehicle, according to the New Westminster Police Department.

On Feb. 7 at approximately 9 a.m., NWPD officers attended a single-vehicle crash at McBride Boulevard and Mott Crescent. The vehicle had travelled across a lawn and through a row of trees before landing in a backyard.

New Westminster Fire & Rescue Services had to cut the roof off the vehicle in order to remove the driver from the car. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash, said police.

Earlier that day, it is alleged the same vehicle was stolen in Surrey.

“While investigators are still completing their analysis of the scene, numerous signs point to this vehicle travelling at a very high speed,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar, in a news release. “Thankfully, no one was in the backyard at the time of this collision.”

Any witnesses that have yet to speak to NWPD investigators are asked to call 604-525-5411.
