A victim was sent to hospital after being stabbed during an altercation at the Columbia SkyTrain station on Monday night.
New Westminster Police Department officers attended the station at about 11 p.m. on Monday, April 10, after receiving a report of a stabbing.
“Upon arrival, patrol officers located the victim, who was provided with first aid and was transported to hospital,” said a NWPD press release. “The New Westminster police major crime unit was deployed, and detectives have been actively gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses. Police learned that an altercation took place between two groups inside the SkyTrain station, resulting in the victim being stabbed.”
NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver told the Record that one of the suspects fell into the tracks during the altercation.
According to the police department, the victim and suspects are not known to each other. Three suspects then fled the SkyTrain station onto Columbia Street, and police are seeking the public’s help in locating them:
Male suspect number 1 had an olive complexion, a thin moustache and was about 18 to 20 years old. He was wearing a black shoulder bag, a black beanie, a grey hoody, a burgundy-coloured jacket, blue jeans, and black shoes.
Male suspect number 2 had an olive complexion and short dark hair. He was wearing dark jeans, a black hoody with a large white logo on the front, a man purse and dark boots.
A female suspect had a medium skin tone and was approximately 16 to 18 years old. She was wearing a black hoody with white writing on the front, a black jacket, black pants and white running shoes.
“The investigation is in the early stages, and we would like to ask anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact police,” Leaver said in a news release. “This type of violence occurring in a public place is concerning, and our detectives are working diligently to bring the persons responsible to justice.”
