The two councils have met in the past to discuss things like developments near the border.

Inquiring minds want to know what New Westminster and Coquitlam councils will discuss at an upcoming sit-down.

At its Feb. 10 meeting, New Westminster city council approved a resolution to meet with Coquitlam city council on Wednesday, Feb. 26. That meeting will be held at Coquitlam City Hall.

“We have to inform the public when we are having a meeting outside of this room, because it's a formal meeting of council,” Mayor Patrick Johnstone said at Monday night’s meeting. “So, we have to have a resolution to that.”

Asked about the meeting, Johnstone later told the Record he could not say what would be discussed as it is a closed meeting under Section 90 of the Community Charter. If anything important arises from the meeting, he said it would come to an open council meeting.

In past years, the two councils have met on occasion to discuss a variety of issues, including developments near the border of the two cities and transportation infrastructure impacting New West and Coquitlam.
