It’s shaping up to be an artsy weekend in New West – with a bit of recreational fun in the mix as well. Here’s a look at some of the events happening during the April 5 to 7 weekend.
Friday, April 5 (and beyond)
Walking with SYM
Attend the opening reception of Walking with SYM – Inspiring a New Generation of Artists. Sofronio Ylanan Mendoza – SYM – was an internationally renowned artist who mentored and nurtured aspiring artists in the Philippines and in Canada. The Dimasalang III International Artist Group’s exhibition features works of SYM and of his students from the Vancouver-based Dimasalang III Artist Group.
- When: You can drop by the opening on Friday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. but the exhibition runs until May 29. The gallery is open during Anvil Centre’s hours of operation

DINOSAURIA
Check out works of arts by young artists at Dinosauria, an exhibit by Queen's Park Preschool. In Dinosauria, preschool use a variety of mediums to explore the world of dinosaurs.

Saturday, April 6
New West Craft
Shop from more than 25 local artisans and makers who are part of this weekend’s New West Craft event.

Sunday, April 7
Play Day New Westminster
Explore the many minor sports and activities offered in the city at Play Day New Westminster. It’s designed to give residents who are looking for more opportunities to be active a chance to experience and connect with different minor sports and activities in the community – including baseball, basketball, circus, football, hockey, lacrosse, ringette, softball and more.

Paint and Sip: Minimalism painting workshop
Paint a minimalistic masterpiece, under the direction of a professional artist who will provide step-by-step guidance, while you are sipping and snacking on a happy-hour menu. This beginner class includes supplies, instruction and your choice of one 16-ounce house beer or a 6-ounce glass of house (red or white) wine. (Full menu of food and beverages available for purchase.)
