New Westminster police are investigating an alleged assault on a bus on Sixth Street.

New Westminster police are hoping to hear from witnesses who may have seen a woman being assaulted by a group of youths on a bus.

New West police officers responded to a call on Sixth Street, near Liverpool Street, after receiving a report of an alleged assault on board a bus. A New Westminster Police Department news release said officers met with a victim, a New West resident in her 20s, who had suffered minor injuries and was in distress in the incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.

“Police learned that the victim was assaulted by a group of youths while on board the bus,” said the news release. “The group fled the scene before first responders arrived.”

The New Westminster Police Department is investigating the incident and is working in partnership with the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.

“We’re in the early stages of this investigation,” NWPD Sgt.  Andrew Leaver said in the news release. “We believe there were transit users on board the bus who saw this assault and fled the area before police arrived. We’re asking those people to come forward to tell us about what they saw.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact New Westminster Police Department by calling 604-525-5411 and referencing file 15754.
